The photograph commonly known as the “Freddy Jackson ghost picture” is a 1919 squadron portrait from the Royal Air Force that appears to show a dead mechanic in the photograph.
 
aken at an R.A.F. training facility, the group portrait shows the World War I-era squadron of retired officer Sir Victor Goddard.
 
A face can be seen faintly in the back row, peering over the head of the airman standing on the top row, fourth from the left. Squadron members identified the face as air mechanic Freddy Jackson.

Jackson was killed by an airplane propeller two days before the picture was taken. His funeral was held on the same day as the squadron photograph. According to the legend, Jackson, unaware of his death, appeared in the photo to be with his squadron.

The image was not made public until 1975, when Sir Victor Goddard showed it to paranormal researchers and published it in his book, Flight Towards Reality.
